Foundation GNVQ Health and Social Care
This course at Foundation level provides a coherent pathway for candidates
wishing to progress to further study and/or employment in Health and Social
Care. Candidates will benefit from the flexible programme of study which
provides a sound basis for subsequently undertaking appropriate NVQs and
work-related training programmes. Candidates may also use the GNVQ route to
progress to the VCE in Health and Social Care. Candidates will be introduced to
the Health and Social Care sector together with health, personal development and
related matters.
Candidates study six units for a Foundation GNVQ qualification, three of which
are mandatory and three optional. The optional units may be chosen from the
Health and Social Care optional units or from any other Foundation GNVQ area.
Candidates can therefore choose optional units that are directly relevant to
their interests or future careers. Assessment for this qualification is based on
a combination of external tests and teacher-assessed portfolios to give a
coherent balance of assessment type.
OCR Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care
The OCR Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care is designed to reflect the work of
candidates who deliver Health and Social Care to clients.
This award is about direct care, where the focus is hands-on care, (doing things
for clients) enablement care, and development and maintenance of the clients
independence (supporting and enabling clients to do things for themselves).
Candidates will usually be delivering care in support of and under the direction
of a colleague who is accountable in the area of practise. Although this person
may not always be in the immediate vicinity while the candidate is working with
clients.
OCR Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults)
This NVQ is designed to reflect the work of candidates who undertake Health and
Social Care activities at Level 3 working with service users/carers.
The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills and competences of
candidates in the workplace.
The qualification is about the delivery of physical, emotional or enabling care
to clients/service users. The candidate will usually be delivering care in
support of, and under the direction of, a colleague who is accountable in the
area of practice.
Candidates may often be working without direct supervision or on their own, such
as in a clients/service users own home. Candidates will have a degree of
responsibility and autonomy, and will be required to make decisions within
boundaries and limits agreed with their team.
This NVQ will allow for progression to and from OCR's existing portfolio of
Health and Social Care qualifications and will complement other vocational
qualifications.
OCR Level 4 NVQ in Registered Managers (Adults)
This NVQ is aimed at candidates who are managers within the care and social care
sectors. It is suitable for candidates who:
-
develop,
maintain and evaluate systems and structures to the benefit of others
-
manage a
service within the care and social care sector
-
manage
financial resources, projects and activities and
-
manage the
performance of teams and individuals
These above qualifications are designed to provide candidates with skills that
are commonly needed for success in education, training, work and life in
general. Those who gain Key Skills can follow a pathway to higher level
education or employment.
The Key Skills qualifications (Communication, Application of Number and IT) are
assessed through an external test and internally-assessed portfolio. They are
available across the National Qualifications Framework from Level 1 to Level 4.
The wider Key Skills units (Working with Others, Problem Solving and Improving
