 Answers
Q: Can I work part time whilst I am studying at CLC?
A:
As a student you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week in the term-time and 40 hours per week in the holidays as long as your studies are not affected.CLC will provide you with a work permit letter when you arrive at the College to show prospective employers. Additionally, we can also provide advice and guidance on how best to approach employment in the UK.
Q: Can I pay my tuition fees with a Credit Card?
A:
No, We will have this facility by late this year 2006.
Q: Does CLC offer financial support?
A:
We do not currently offer any form of sponsorship or scholarship programme. However, you may find it useful to contact your local British Council office to find out if they know of any local initiatives that you may benefit from.
Q: What is CLC's required level of entry?
A:
Once your application has been assessed, you will be offered a level of study, which we feel is suitable to your experience and qualifications.

However, if you have not included all of your qualifications in your application or if you have relevant work experience that may lead to a higher level of entry then please submit any additional evidence to support your application.

To find out more about our entry requirements please click on the subject area you are interested in.
Q: Can I get exemption from one or more units of a course?
A:
Depending on the course of study and prior qualifications you may be able to apply for exemption. Once you begin your studies, College staff will be available to offer advice and guidance on how to go about applying for exemptions.
Q: Will my tuition fees be refunded if my application for a student visa is refused?
A:
Whilst tuition fees are not normally refundable, if a prospective overseas student is unable to obtain a student visa and can submit written evidence of this (original British Immigration form APP 200,admission letters ) tuition fees will be refunded in full (minus the £100 administration cost).
Q: Can CLC contact the British Embassy in my country to help me get a student visa?
A:
It is our policy not to communicate directly with them unless they ask us to. Additionally, we are aware that these offices are sometimes very busy and waiting times can be long. In order to get an earlier interview it is sometimes possible to get an appointment at very short notice if someone else cancels his or her interview. Once you have prepared your documents you should call the Embassy or High Commission early one morning and be prepared to travel to be interviewed on that day.
Q: Can I pay my fees by installments?
A:
UK based visa nationals (i.e. those required to obtain a visa from a local British Embassy or High Commission), non-visa nationals (i.e. those who can apply for a visa on entry at a UK port or airport) and citizens of the European Union may pay tuition fees on an installment basis, although an extra £50 per term is payable if this method is chosen. To calculate the fee for the ABE Diploma course for example, simply add £150 to the full year fee and divide the total by three.
Q: How can I pay my tuition fees directly to CLC?
A:
Tuition fees may be paid either directly to the College by cheque or cash, or sent from overseas by bankers draft or telegraphic transfer. Banker's drafts should be made payable to Commonwealth Law College and sent by courier or registered post to ensure security. When sending funds by telegraphic transfer, confirm the College bank details:
Q: What if I reach the UK too late for the start of the course?
A:
College regulations state that we are able to accept students up to one week after the start of lectures, which means that you should be in a position to commence your studies by the second Monday following the published start date. If you can reach London by then ask us for a letter to that affect so the British Embassy or High Commission are aware that we can accommodate you. Please bear in mind that if you choose to join us as a late entrant you will need to work very hard to make up the lost time. However, we will of course provide you with photocopies of the notes and handouts from the classes you have missed. If you are unable to join us by that time, your place will be transferred automatically to the next course start.
Q: How many lectures will I have per week?
A:
Your timetable will be issued to you on registration day or soon after. All full time courses are made up of at least 5 lectures per week each lasting 3 hours. Therefore you will always have a minimum of 15 hours of classes per week in total.
Q: How long will it take CLC to process my application?
A:
All applications need to be assessed by the academic staff so the appropriate course can be offered. CLC then despatches documents by EMAIL,FAX OR airmail. From sending your application to receiving your offer can take 1-2 weeks depending on the speed of the postal system in your country.
